Welcome to KS Studio
I was born in Austria, and life has taken me through different countries before eventually leading me to Svalbard — one of the most remote and extraordinary places I have ever called home.
Moving to Svalbard was never part of my plan. It happened through an unexpected and rather wild turn of events, and yet, looking back, I can hardly imagine a place that could have influenced me more.
Living in the Arctic taught me to slow down, to observe, and to appreciate things I might otherwise have overlooked. The silence. The changing light. The colours of the landscape. The sea and the ice. And, above all, the incredible wildlife.
Being surrounded by animals in their natural environment was something very special. Polar bears, Arctic foxes, reindeer, whales, walruses and countless birds became part of the landscape around me. I spent years taking photographs, observing them, learning about them and simply being fascinated by their presence.
Svalbard opened my eyes to a different kind of beauty — one that doesn’t need to be loud or complicated. It can be found in the smallest details, in an animal’s expression, in the delicate patterns of ice, or in the way the light changes from one moment to the next.
And somewhere along the way, I found something else: the confidence to truly embrace my creativity.
I have always loved making things. Since I can remember, I have explored different forms of handicraft and creative expression. But for a long time, creativity was something I did alongside everything else.
Svalbard gave me the space to see it differently.
It made me realise that creating is not simply a hobby for me. It is how I observe the world, process experiences, tell stories and connect with the things that inspire me.
Today, that inspiration takes many different forms.
- Through ceramics, I explore the colours, textures and raw beauty of Svalbard and the natural world.
- Through illustration, I bring animals, characters and little stories to life.
- Through books, I can share stories and knowledge and hopefully inspire others to discover and appreciate the Arctic as much as I do.
- And through prints, Sun Prints and other creative projects, I continue experimenting with different ways of translating the things I see and love into something tangible.
These may seem like very different things, but to me they are all connected.
They all begin with curiosity, nature, wildlife and a desire to create.
Svalbard also taught me how little we really need. Living in a place where nature is so powerful and human life is so small in comparison made me rethink what is important. It taught me to notice more, to slow down and to find beauty in things that are often overlooked.
I carry those lessons with me wherever I go.
KS Studio is where all of these experiences and creative paths come together.
It is my space to experiment, to draw, to write, to make, to learn and to share the things that inspire me. Some ideas become finished products, some become books, some remain experiments — and I am quite happy not to know exactly where the next idea will lead.
What connects everything is the inspiration behind it: the natural world, Arctic wildlife, curiosity and the stories we find along the way.
